Building materials can be regarded as part of building’s members. It complements each and every building elements such as floors, walls, columns, roofs and many more. Due to its characters, the application of building materials in buildings can provide various perceptions to the end users and public in general. Choosing the right materials as building finishes is important for the architects in order to signify the function, strength and durability of a space., Most of the building materials are naturally occurring substances, such as clay, sand, wood, rocks and etc. have been used to reflect the image of a building. Also, apart from naturally occurring materials, many man-made products in various compositions are actively used as well.
This assignment is designed to introduce building materials that are commonly used in the construction industry. The spaces or building selected to study will allow one to understand the reasoning behind choices made by architects / designers in terms of concepts, functions, environmental response, structural requirement, availability of resources and etc. when selecting or proposing building materials for the building design. In a group of 6, we have selected Starhill as our commercial building that let us experience and exploring most of the building materials covered in the module. As for individual part, I have choosen a link passageway to Marriot Hotel as my case of study. Throughout this assignment, I have learn the importance of interpersonal skills; understand the team dynamics and the power of a team. Next, I have adapted digital literacy; I have learned Powerpoint to complete this assignment.
